Events in Dunkerque

Dunkerque isn’t so popular with events. There is although a big carnival each year around the end of January and beginning of February which brings most of the city locals to the center of town where a parade is held.

Info: The pre-eminent springtime event in northern France is an amazing street spectacle with roots going back hundreds of years. It used to be called Shrove Tuesday and was a day when shipping owners laid on a banquet for their fishermen. Nowadays the main festivity is a parade through the town center where the main star is Reuze Papa, a giant figurine beloved by the townspeople.
